Penny Wars

A student-favorite, Penny Wars is a week-long fundraiser McKnight holds annually to help raise money for Highmark Caring Place.
This fun competition between grade levels gets the kids super excited, promotes grade-level spirit, and allows our school to raise money for a great cause.
Last year Second Grade won and overall McKnight Students raised $4,006.69! Let’s see if we can beat that number this year!
How it works.
Bring in pennies to support your grade and place them in your grade level container in the lobby during arrival each day.
Bring in nickels, dimes, or quarters to sabotage other grades by putting them in their containers.
Each grade will be scored by the amount of money they raise in pennies subtracted by the amount of money from other coins put in their container. So, every penny helps the grade, every nickel, dime or quarter will be counted against them.
The team with the most money from pennies at the end of the week wins!
What does the winning class win?
Aside from bragging rights for the rest of the year, the winning grade gets to take on their favorite teachers and staff during a Faculty vs. Students DodgeBall Game. Students from other grades get to watch and cheer them (or the school staff) on!
What organization are we supporting?
All money raised during Penny Wars goes directly to Highmark Caring Place, an important organization that helps children and families coping with loss of a loved one. They provide a safe place where grieving children and families can come together and be with others who understand what they’re going through.

Counting Volunteers Needed
During the week of Penny Wars, the school counselors will need parent volunteers to help count the money each day.
They will need 1-2 volunteers each day, Monday, November 13th through Friday, November 17th. Volunteers would need to be available at 9:30 am. If interested, please email Mrs. W at kwisniewski@northallegheny.org.
