Dear Parents,                                                                                                       4/2024

 

My name is Dennis Morton, and I am the string teacher at McKnight Elementary. The 2nd grade students were recently given a short presentation at school on the violin, viola, and cello.  On Wednesday, May 8th they will also be visiting the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  Each year third graders in NA can choose to play a string instrument at school.  Experienced string teachers at all seven elementary schools within the district provide third grade students the opportunity to gain fundamental skills in all elements of musicianship, from the basics of playing a string instrument, to working in an ensemble, and performing in a concert setting. Your child may want to begin studying one of these orchestra instruments this coming fall.

              Playing an instrument will expand the opportunities for your child to participate not only in curriculum-based performance at school, including concerts and participation in the Golden Strolling Strings, but also in extracurricular musical activities, such as N. A. Fiddlers, musicals, small ensembles, P.M.E.A. Honors/ District/ Regional/ State and even National Orchestra Competitions.  To participate in these special events, your child must be enrolled in the school instrumental music program.

NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

 

 

 

♫    I will contact your child during the first week of school to confirm if you have rented an instrument and all necessary materials.   

 

♫    String lessons will begin the second or third week of school once the string schedule has been created.

 

♫    All rental instruments will be sent directly to the school at the beginning of the year. I will get them ready for the first lesson, and your child will receive the instrument you rented during their first lesson.
