Our latest “Meet McKnight” post is featuring another one of our students’ favorites - Mr. Herzik!
Mr. Herzik is a jack of all trades and does a ton to keep our kids happy, healthy, and safe. We hope you enjoy learning a little more about this very special member of the McKnight family! Next time you see him at the school be sure to say "hi" and "thanks"!
Mr. Herzik is the school’s Head Custodian. He has been a part of the North Allegheny family for nine years and has spent the last three and a half years with us at McKnight!
PFA: Tell us about your role at McKnight
MH: I do many different things at McKnight. I clean the cafeteria during and after lunch, clean up spills, and deliver packages. I also check a lot of equipment at the school and deal with any alarms or problems that may arise. This time of year I also shovel, plow, and salt our sidewalks.
PFA: How do the students know you?
MH: The kids see me all over the building every day! The kids get to see me in the cafeteria and when I help at morning drop-off. I also help them out at recess by getting toys off the roof or out of fenced-in areas. When there are dodgeball rewards for a class, I always participate.
I also have two nieces in Kindergarten and 2nd Grade.
PFA: What is your favorite thing about working at McKnight?
MH: Everyone at McKnight seems to genuinely care about each other and like one another. It's a family feeling rather than a coworker feeling.
PFA: Do you have any hobbies?
MH: Golfing and vacationing in Florida.
PFA: When you’re not at McKnight where are we most likely to find you?
MH: At home with my wife and daughter. Hunting. Golfing. Watching High School Football. At a Steeler game. Playing Xbox or Nintendo.
PFA: Do you have a favorite quote you can share with us?
MH: "If ya can't say somethin' nice, don't say nothin' at all." - Thumper (from Bambi)
